The axe head was hand forged from solid 1080 high carbon steel, after rough forging, the axe was ground to its final shape, annealed to relieve any stresses that might have built up in the steel during the forging process, and quenched in oil, then it was tempered for 2 hours at 220 degrees celsius, to achieve the finest grain structure which makes the blade tough and durable. Fully heat -treated and razor sharp! The blade can be made right or left handed. One bevel is flat while the other is ground at an angle.
The axe head itself has a rustic forged finish and a mirror finish on the very blade. The blade features a slight curve to it, and a pronounced beard which allows for a wide blade but still light as less material is required compared to traditional axes. This axe was designed with carving/hewing in mind, it also features a widened hammer poll on the back, and is double edged (double bevels)
The handle comes in natural wood color, which is afterwards sealed with tung oil to expose the beauty of the grain and protect it from the elements.
Handle is hand carved from mountain ash wood, which is custom fitted to the head solid, secured with a elm wedge.
Overall length of the axe is 40cm /16’’, with the blade width of approximately 15,5cm/6’’, axe weighs approximately 1000grams - 1.9lbs
